Many rural and regional areas in Australia struggle to find workers even though they are some of the most beautiful parts of Australia.
Regional areas also have exceptional lifestyles to offer individuals and families that move there.
For many years, Australia's migration policies have provided visa options for skilled migrants to move to these regional areas.
The reason is that popular cities like Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane are excluded due to their dense populations. Other areas are also excluded if they do not have enough jobs to offer.
Why Regional Australia needs you…
At Sharon Harris Migration Agents, we see regional migration as the future.
We recommend regional areas as your most likely option for migration to Australia.
Regional areas have a wide range of employment opportunities from farming, mining and tourism – to essential services like health and education.
Far from being isolated, most regional areas already have well established and welcoming communities of migrants.
Living and working in a regional area
Australia's different State governments (e.g. New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria) support regional migration through 491 and 494 visas.
482 visas are for regions that have a Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) with the Australian Government (the government of the whole of Australia).
Employers in regional towns and surrounding areas are industries like:
3 year requirement
491 and 494 visas require you to live work, and study in regional areas for at least 3 years.
After 3 years, you may be eligible to apply for a 191 Permanent Residence (PR) visa.
491 and 494 visas provide many more occupation choices to apply for PR.
They are also an excellent opportunity for migrants unable to satisfy the requirements for non-regional options like Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
