NEW ZEALANDERS

If you are a New Zealand citizen, you can be eligible to live in Australia

Are you from New Zealand?

Applicable visas: 444, 155, 189, 461

New Zealand Citizens in Australia are often unaware of their options for Permanent Residence (PR).

Some of you may already be Permanent Residents of Australia.

If you're a New Zealand citizen who arrived after 26 February 2001, you probably hold a 444 Temporary visa.

But, you may also have an option such as:

  • 155 (Resident Return visa) - If you were you in Australia before 1/9/1994
  • 155 (Resident Return visa) - If you lived at least 1 year in Australia within 2 years before 26/2/2001
  • 189 (Skilled Independent visa) - If you lived in Australia on or before 19/2/2016 and continue to live and work here
  • 461 (NZ Family Relationship) - 444 holders may have their partner and children live with them in Australia

444 Visa Update:

It is important for NZ residents to consider their future in Australia as there is no guarantee the 444 visa will continue.

Under a joint decision by the Prime Ministers of Australia and New Zealand  in 2001, New Zealanders cease to hold Permanent Residency upon arrival in Australia.

Australian and New Zealand governments may decide to terminate our mutual rights of entry as temporary residents.

If you're a New Zealander living in Australia, make sure your visa matches your needs.
